August 2015 Calendar
SCNA MONTHLY MEET-UPS

Each month, SCNA hosts a monthly (clothed) dinner and discussion group at different public restaurants around the greater Los Angeles area. This is a way to introduce new people to naturism and to dispel mistaken impressions that non-nudists may have about us. This meeting is also a required pre-requisite before we can invite you to one of our clothing-optional parties. Anyone with a sincere interest in discussing naturist issues is welcome. This month’s Meet-Ups:

San Fernando Valley: Tuesday August 11, 6:45PM – 8:30PM
Pasadena/Glendale: Monday August 17, 6:45PM – 8:30PM
South Bay/Torrance: Thursday August 27, 6:45PM – 8:30PM
Ventura County: Friday, August 14, 6:45PM – 8:30PM
Carpintera/Santa Barbara: Tuesday, August 27, 6:45PM – 8:30PM

ANNUAL NUDE SUMMER GAMES
Location: Olive Dell, Colton
Gate fee, MEMBERS: $16, NON-MEMBERS: $22

We have planned 12 different Nude Summer Games that will test your strength, endurance, and competitiveness — the first, second, and third place overall winners will receive a nice medal, as does the wining club! These games are fun for the whole family; serious athletic ability is not required.

The games are divided between team sports and individual games of skill. They will occur in the pool, around the pool, and in the lower “bowl” area of the park. PLUS THE BEST FOR LAST! OUR ANNUAL PUDDING TOSS! (Yes, it’s just what you think it is!)

On top of all that, Bobby is putting together a special dinner that will include an 8oz. Rib-eye Steak, Homemade Macaroni Salad, Fresh Grilled Asparagus, a Dinner Salad, Roll, & Chocolate Banana Split Cupcake all for $13.99 + tax. There”s usually a limited supply of these special dinners, so if you want one, sign up for it in the café as soon as you arrive. The awards ceremony will take place after dinner.

  • At Noon, we will meet on the club patio to deliver instructions to all participants.
  • SCNA members wishing to participate (or watch) must RSVP to us at (818) 225-2273 by 8/6 so we can give Olive Dell a list for their office. Bring your SCNA membership card to check in at the gate.
  • Please bring a folding chair to sit on!
  • To stay overnight in a birdhouse cabin, RV spot, or tent call Olive Dell directly at (909) 880-0803.

BATES BEACH PARTY
Location: Santa Barbara/Ventura County Line

Another sunny beach event! To get our beach back it is important that we keep showing up to get the non-nudists who come to the beach to see they have nothing to fear from us, and that it is okay for us to claim the unused western end of the beach.

The Santa Barbara nudity law remains in effect. Persons removing their swimsuit do so at their own risk, although we have had no problems at our events this year so far. Go as bare as you dare! Your decision, your choice!

Bring your own picnic supplies, chairs, bathing suits and sunscreen and make a day of it. Afterwards we will all go into Carpinteria to eat and pay for our meals with $2 bills!

Call us at (818) 225-2273 or RSVP to scna@socalnaturist.org.

August 9 – 15, 2015

Saturday, August 23, 2PM
GO TOPLESS DAY
LOCATION: Venice Beach Boardwalk

Go Topless Day Venice Beach is an annual protest for the promotion of gender equality. Part of a worldwide movement, Go Topless Day aims to raise awareness of gender discrimination that prevents women from bearing their naked breasts in public. The event encourages women to go topless in public and men to cover their chests by wearing bras or bikinis to show the inequality.

Locally, the march starts at 2PM at Venice Beach, Boardwalk at Navy St., although many will start gathering after noon. The demonstration will include a march down the boardwalk followed by a few speeches. It always draws about 50–75 women and about 10 times that many men plus a couple dozen police officers.

Because of the nudity ordinance in effect at LA County beaches, women are encouraged to go as “bare as you dare,” however, as in previous years, most women will opt for wearing red Band-Aids in a crisscross over their nipples and areolas.

Go Topless Day always falls at the Sunday closest to Women's Equality Day, Aug 26. It was on 8/26/1920 that women earned their right to vote. In 1971, Congress designated Aug 26 each year as “Women's Equality Day.”

Saturday, August 29, Noon – Sunset
ZORTHIAN RANCH POOL PARTY
LOCATION: In the hills above Pasadena and Altadena
MEMBERS and NON-MEMBERS: $20/person
CHILDREN UNDER 18: No Charge

The Zorthian Ranch is a 48-acre mountainside artist enclave in the hills above Altadena, which has been used in past years for fashion shoots, movie locations, and folk festivals. The Ranch was the life work of the late Jirayr Zorthian, a world-famous artist. Many of his unique sculptures and structures are on display here. There is a large swimming pool that overlooks the city below, and a Plaza area where we will be holding our clothing-optional party, pot luck and, by popular request, Talent Show.

Can you play an instrument? Tell a joke? Juggle? Sing? Dance? This is your moment to show your hidden talents! Overlooking the Plaza Del Primavera where we will be partying, is the massive “Deck of Zorbachus” (i.e. theatrical stage). It is time we made proper use of it. So whatever your talent is, start practicing now! Please let us know as soon as possible if you would like to perform so we can work you into the show!

We understand a few members have secretly gotten together to rehearse a short one-act play as their contribution. This should be fun!

We have rented out the entire property for the afternoon, so to cover our costs we are opening up the party to the Olympians, YNA, Camping Bares, and NitOC clubs to enjoy the day with us. SCNA will provide the soda and water. Please bring a dish for the pot luck.

Please RSVP by Thursday, August 27 to SCNA at (818) 225-2273 or via email at scna@socalnaturist.org.

NON-SCNA members (from other clubs) are required to secure their RSVP's with payment via PayPal, check, or Money Order, 48 hours prior to the event.
