Gary's Spaghetti Sauce

This spaghetti sauce requires a Crock Pot. It was introduced at a club "Bingo Night" dinner in 2008. By popular demand, it has been served and many club events ever since. Always a hit!

Sauce Ingredients

1 Pound Lean ground beef
1/2 Pound Italian sausage, remove from casings
1 Cup Onion - chopped (about 1 large onion)
2 Cloves Garlic - minced
29 Oz Canned Tomatoes - diced or broken up
16 Oz Tomato sauce
8 Oz Canned sliced mushrooms, drained
1 Cup Green bell pepper - chopped
4 Tbs Tapioca, quick-cooking
2 Whole Bay Leaves
1 Tsp Dried leaf basil, crumbled
1 Tsp Dried leaf oregano, crushed
1/4 Tsp Ppper
Salt to taste

Gary's Spaghetti Sauce Directions

  1. In a heavy skillet over medium-low heat, cook ground beef, sausage, onion, and garlic until meat is no longer pink and onion is tender; drain off excess fat.
  2. Meanwhile in a Crock Pot, combine undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce, mushrooms, green pepper, tapioca, bay leaves, oregano, basil, pepper, and salt. Stir in browned drained meat mixture.
  3. Cover and cook on LOW for 10 hours, or on HIGH heat setting for 5 hours (Slow setting is best; A High setting requires stirring every hour our so.)
  4. Remove bay leaves.
  5. Serve sauce over hot spaghetti with ground Parmesan cheese.
