Location: Jacumba
Table Mountain near Jacumba California is a striking flat mesa type mountain, the remains of a volcano that last erupted 15 million years ago. Held sacred by native people of the past, this hike explores the volcanic tableland before climbing the two summits, one the remnants of the volcanic caldera, the other a broken dome of lava. The summit is at an elevation of 4089 feet, the lava dome sits at 3880 feet. We will park in the old quarry on the east side of the mountain. 2.75 miles with 600 feet of elevation gain. Take Interstate 8 to Exit 73. We will meet in the large parking lot across from the Jacumba Chevron Station. That's the one with the helicopter on the roof. We will caravan to the trailhead from there.
