    National Roper Poll 2006
    California Zogby 2008

SO. CAL. POLLS SHOW LOCAL SUPPORT FOR NUDE BEACHES

Below are the results of three polls taken locally from November, 2006 (San Luis Obispo), May 2008 (Orange County), and June 2008 (Santa Barbara). All show widespread public support for nude beaches in the area. The results of these polls are consistent with the numbers produced by the nationwide Roper Poll in 2006 and the Zogby poll of Californians in 2008 (see links above).

NOV 2006: AVILA BEACH (SAN LUIS OBISPO)

Poll conducted on-line by the San Luis Obispo Tribute from October 1-30, 2006.

In response to the probable sale of the land, the San Luis Obispo Tribune newspaper ran an on-line poll last week, asking its readers to vote, "Should Pirate's Cove remain a nude beach?” The response has been overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the beach nude. As of 10/28/2006, 1376 people had voted and the results show:

Question: Should Pirate's Cove Remain A Nude Beach?

    Yes1,313 95%
    No63 5%

The paper quoted county officials as saying the overwhelming preference for the nude beach means the County “will probably lean toward maintaining its clothing-optional status.”

Follow-up: the sale of the beach to the county was approved in October 2008 and the county agreed to retain the clothing optional status of the beach.

MAY 2008: SAN ONOFRE BEACH (BORDER OF ORANGE AND SAN DIEGO COUNTIES)

In May, 2008, The Orange County Register conducted an on-line poll seeking reader’s opinions about retaining the clothing-optional section at San Onofre State Park. The poll was active: May 30 – June 30, 2008. The results:

Question: What Do You Think of the Nude Beach At San Onofre?

    I support it 2,648 76%
    Doesn't bother me, but I wouldn't do it 495 14%
The state should shut it down 27814%
    Don’t Know 80 2%

JUNE 2008: BATES BEACH (SANTA BARBARA COUNTY)

The Santa Barbara Independent's June 26, 2008 issue included a poll for readers to take on whether they approved of the idea of a special section of Bates Beach set aside for nude use. The poll was open June 26-July 10, 2008. Total voting: 927. The overwhelmingly positive results of the poll surprised everybody, even its supporters. The proposal is for a designated area with proper signage.

Question: Do You Support the Idea of a Beach in Santa Barbara County Being Set aside for Nude Use?

    Yes, Absolutely 757 81%
    Yes, With Signage16417%
    Definitely Not6< 1%
