DUTCH FRIED CHEESE

This recipe comes from my great-grandmother, who was born in Rotterdam, Holland, in 1882.

INGREDIENTS:

2 egg whites
2 Tbl water
8 slices Edam or Guda cheese, 1/3" thick
fine dry bread crumbs or cracker crumbs
Butter or Margerine

INSTRUCTIONS:

Prep Time: approximately 30 minutes.

1. Beat egg whites, slightly, with water.
2. Dip cheese slices into egg/water mixture and then into crumbs.
3. Let stand for 10 minutes.
4. Saute in butter or margerine in a skillet until golden brown on both sides.
