    A WALK THROUGH CAP D'AGDE

    By Le and Judy B

Cap d'Agde, on the Mediterranean coast of France, between Sète and Beziers, is a modern vacation resort offering vacationers the finest, sandy beaches and clear water as well as abundant opportunities for leisure activities. Originally built as a state project by France to promote naturist tourism in the area, a wide range of sports is available to residents and vacationers alike, including sailing and surfing, tennis and golf. In the evenings, the area abounds in a wide choice of entertainment, ranging from restaurants and musical events to an amusement park and discotheques at an adjacent entertainment center. For nature-lovers, there is a picturesque almost untouched hinterland with unforgettable day trips, hiking and canoeing.

A holiday resort with lots to do, Cap d'Agde is a place of contrasts: The scenery is unique. On one side, there is a 10-mile long sandy beach, on the other side basalt cliffs and the formerly fortified island Fort Brescou, which in former times served as a prison. Cap d'Agde also has every type of sport and cultural facility.

Passing through the harbor entrance to Port Ambonne, a real paradise awaits the naturist. Terraced apartment buildings of up to five stories form a residential complex divided into the sections of Port Ambonne, Port Nature, Heliopolis and Heliovillage. In between these individual apartment buildings, lie snugly the townhouses (villas) of Port Nature and Heliovillage surrounded by beautiful gardens and green areas.

In the center are the common facilities including four separate swimming pools. There are grocery stores (le supermarché) bakeries (la boulangerie), pastry shops (la pâtisserie), and deli’s (la charcuterie). There is also a bank ATM, a post office (la poste) and a police department (l’agent de police), and you may conduct all of your business in the nude.

On the beach, sailing boats, sun chairs and parasols can be hired on an hourly, daily or weekly basis, while beach bars and restaurants serve drinks and fine meals. Additionally, many restaurants specialize in gourmet meals.

All apartments and townhouses (villas) are privately owned, although many of them are only used a few weeks per year, and many can be rented, ensuring the owners get a good return on their investment. You must shop the rental agencies to obtain the best prices on your rental.
