Deer Park Rebuilds
This park, known as Treehouse Fun Ranch in the 1990’s, has gone through a major renovation during the past several years. Gone are the funky old trailers and tired landscape. And the “swingers” seem to be long gone as well. Trees and grass have been planted, and the residents seem to have a new pride in the way their personal spaces look.
A new pavilion center was constructed alongside the large upper pool and acts as the park’s social center during the warmer months. It has a snack bar open for lunch and drinks on weekend afternoons.
The Trails’ End clubhouse and restaurant has been rebuilt, complete with new wallpaper and paint, a new roof, and an upgraded indoor Jacuzzi. Volunteers still cook the food but they do a nice job providing a decent meal for the average price of $5-7. The Trail’s End also has a new flat screen TV over the bar that shows sports events, mostly NASCAR and football, as they are the games these residents enjoy the most. There is also a Wii playstation for those who want to challenge each other to a computer version of tennis, bowling, or Guitar Hero. On Saturday nights, the restaurant transforms into a Karaoke center which seems to bring down all the residents to either watch or participate. Some of these people have great voices! The complex also has a new pool table, which also seems to be in constant use.
In summary, the enthusiasm of the residents and the steer stubbornness of the friendly office staff seem determined to keep this park going no matter what. The park owners are also behind them, so it seems Deer Park is going to come out of this recession just fine.
Below are reports about our club visits there during 2009:
SCNA JOINS IN THE BODY PAINTING FUN AT DEER PARK
August 11, 2007 - A dozen SCNA members trekked to Deer Park on Saturday August 11 for that nudist resort’s annual body painting contest. Prez Gary got painted with the NBA logo across his tummy (see photo above) and was a co-winner!
We spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the large pool and the newly-completed covered pavilion that has become the social center for the resort during the summer. In the evening they served us a delicious dinner in the clubhouse.
Manager Karla was a perfect hostess, and the consensus of the members is that SCNA should plan a return trip in the spring.
A complete story about the rebuilding of Deer Park by its group of hard-working volunteers will appear in next month’s newsletter (along with more body-painting photos).
MEMORIAL WEEKEND PLANS BLOWN AWAY BY COLD WIND, RAIN AND A NEARBY TORNADO! SCNA WENT TO DEER PARK ANYWAY
May 30, 2008 - Continuing our weird weather theme for May, Memorial weekend this year was definitely one for the books. A freak late season storm blew in on the Thursday before, ruining the holiday plans for millions in the Los Angeles Basin. The nudist community was not immune either.
By Sunday the poor weather had cleared as partly cloudy skies returned even as the outdoor temperature struggled – and failed – to reach a tolerable 70 (tolerable for naked people, that is.) Nevertheless a half dozen SCNA members still decided to journey to Deer Park to participate in the Body Painting contest against the Olympian Club, which was there celebrating its 55th anniversary.
The activities were moved from the upper pool and pavilion to the large indoor clubhouse where we could stay warm and enjoy the karaoke (some of these people sing real good!) and the indoor Jacuzzi.
Only two SCNA members got painted – Gary and Steve – but we lost out to Olympian member Mary Anne who has an American eagle painted on her back. Second place went to a male resident of Deer Park who displayed an intricately-detailed polka dot bikini. Oh well, at least the showering off was fun!
Dinner was bring-you-own main course for the BBQ out back while the club provided a terrific spread of side dishes of baked beans, potatoes, and several kinds of salad. Afterwards the Olympians shared their anniversary chocolate cake with everyone
As always, we found the Deer Park membership extremely friendly.
